Mary Smith was Headteacher of a large secondary school, who made two discoveries. She uncovered an extensive set of tunnels in excellent condition which had been used as an underground classroom during WW2 - this contained an exquisite set of paintings of wartime school by a young art teacher. Her work provides a unique and enthralling record and Mary’s talk tells the story of wartime school life using the evidence from this discovery.
