Philosophy 1 focuses on friendly, informal discussion of philosophical themes and great thinkers, both ancient and modern.  In ancient Greece, philosophy literally meant ‘a love of knowledge and wisdom’ and we aim to be both well-informed and wise and try to think ‘outside the box’! We alternate between studying a leading figure of philosophy and discussion of philosophical concepts/ideas. Topics are selected by group members at the end of meetings and often follow on from ideas that have come up during the meeting. Participants are encouraged to read around the subject and all have the opportunity to hold the floor for about 5 minutes, then it’s opened up for group discussion. So, no long ‘papers’ to prepare, everyone gets the chance to contribute and the coffee is always good! For more information or to join us for a ‘taster’ session, email the Group leader via Philosophy 1
