The Ashtead u3a Science & Technology Group exists to bring together those who have an interest in pure science or applied technology and who wish to develop that interest. The group meets in one or other of the members’ houses to discuss topics and issues in science, engineering or technology. The discussion is usually led by one of the members and then opened to contributions and discussion. Currently, the members of the group bring a wide range of knowledge and experience to the topics under discussion and it is not unusual for counter arguments to be made to the generally accepted position. Recent meeting topics have included Ageing of Skin, Meteorites, Solar Wind and Geomagnetic Storms, Quantum Computing, Linear Measurements, and Friction, Lubrication and Wear. When the topic is of scientific interest members of the group may attend the u3a Surrey Network meetings.
